Texas Department of State Health Services |
The mission of the Department of Health is to protect and promote the health of the people of Texas. Much of the state health department's services are focused on immunizations, prenatal care, annual physical exams, well-baby care and border health. Most of the work happens in regional offices around the state.
Other major Texas Department of Health programs include: poison control centers, emergency response and trauma, food safety, tobacco use, disease prevention and control, women's health and consumer health.
The department helps identify community health problems, enforces laws and rules that protect the public health, does research and helps link people with health service providers.
Region 11:
Public Health Region 11 was established in 1972 to improve the systems for the health services, disease prevention and environmental health surveillance in South Texas. Specific services of Public Health Region 11 include: adult and child health, maternal health, family planning, immunizations, tuberculosis elimination program, emergency medical services, county indigent health care, chronically ill and disabled children's services, diabetes programs and border environmental and consumer health.
