County Constables

Constables are elected officials and authorized peace officers. They are sometimes called the chief executive of the justice of the peace courts because they subpoena witnesses and act as the chief process server and bailiff. They have state-wide jurisdiction to execute any criminal processes and county-wide jurisdiction to execute all civil processes. In larger counties, the constables assist the county and district courts.

Constables have duties related to keeping accounts of the financial transactions of the office and are responsible for property seized or money collected by court order. The number of constable precincts in the county is determined by the size of the population.
